SDL Nobel Delivers Final Gas Lift Closure Spools for bp's CGL project

17.07.2021

Recently, Cathal Kelly, VP Projects, bp, joined the bp and Worley project management teams on their visit to the SDL Nobel fabrication shop in Baku. During the visit, SDL Nobel received recognition awards from Mr. Kelly for safety amongst the craft where ca. 510 tonnes steel (310Te structural and 200Te piping) had been through fabrication yard - an area of ca. 10,500m2 – and then shipped to the Chirag and DWG platforms for installation.

Over the last 23 months the SDL Nobel team at fabrication yard have managed to keep offshore construction crews busy despite couple waves of COVID in the country. The total number of spools released to-date is 906 (approx. total length of spools is 3.1km), with the last few spools now going through final welding and painting process the team will complete fabrication scope on Chirag Gas Lift Project.

Amongst most notable recent achievements is the blowdown system that is now sitting on the Chirag platform. It is pre-installed with all the valves, and fitted right into position when first delivered offshore – a sign of effective implementation of R1T principles.

Cathal Kelly said: "It has been great to see that the team felt proud for their LTI free performance and having no spools returned to the fabrication shop for modifications – again great example of R1T principles in real life. Many thanks for the efforts delivered by SDL Nobel’s and Worley’s teams under bp’s oversight to maintain safe and efficient operation at SDL Nobel. It was great to meet with our contractor teams: Farhad Parvizi, Managing Director at SDL Nobel, Aslan Abdullayev, HSE Manager at SDL Nobel, Dan Campion, Project Lead at Worley.’

It is worth to mention that the Chirag Gas Lift project is expected to start-up at the end of 2021, and it will contribute to incremental production at Chirag.
